BLUE ROOM SHOWCASE: EZRA MAE & THE GYPSY-MOON @ DC9

EMGM1
Yesterday we announced that we have created a new blog series entitled “Blue Room Showcase,” which will feature reviews of only local artists in order to showcase our area’s passionate and talented musicians. In this first installment, we feature Ezra Mae and the Gypsy-Moon, an up and coming garage rock/psychedelic/blues band from Washington, DC. The band consists of Sandy on vocals and guitar, Stephanie on guitar, Travis on bass and harmonica, and Andy on drums. They may only have one recorded song (titled Valleys in the Dust available on their bandcamp page), but they certainly make up for it in their live show.

On January 25th, Ezra Mae and the Gypsy-Moon played a show at DC9 opening for Adia Victoria. When the first note was hit there was an instant groove that had the audience bobbing their heads and swaying with the music. Although they are a relatively new band, they play well together and they have managed to create a sound that is truly their own; when you listen to them play their songs, they all have a similar distinct sound, but there is enough interest (like Travis’ harmonica or Sandy’s bluesy guitar solo) that each song sounds unique. The stand out song of the night was Valleys in the Dust. Sandy’s two guitar solos in the song just ooze emotion.
